Safer Births

Generates new knowledge about the birth process, the transition from fetal to newborn life, and life-saving treatments after birth.

Globally, the day of birth is the most dangerous day in a person's life. Complications from preterm birth, insufficient oxygen during delivery, and infections are the most common causes of illness and death in the neonatal period. The Safer Births research network works to improve monitoring and treatment in all these areas.

Safer Births is an interdisciplinary research group that generates new knowledge about the birth process, the transition from fetal to newborn life, and life-saving treatments after birth, such as neonatal resuscitation. We develop better equipment for monitoring and treatment, as well as more effective methods for simulation-based training of healthcare workers—enabling faster detection of critical conditions, reducing patient risk, and providing optimal care.

The research group is composed of professionals from various disciplines (obstetrics, neonatology, and anesthesia) and collaborates closely with signal analysts and industry partners to develop and implement innovative products that enhance patient safety.
