Prodromal lewy body disease: early detection, prognosis and biomarkers.

In this study we investigate the early disease mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies, commonly referred to as Lewy body disease (LBD).
Today, most people are diagnosed with LBD only when symptoms, such as movement disorders and cognitive failure, are noticeable. However, we know that other symptoms that are more difficult to detect can occur many years in advance of the time of diagnosis. Today’s knowledge of the early disease phase is limited, and is an obstacle to early diagnosis and optimal follow-up.
The purpose of the study is to find new and important information about early signs of illness, which can provide a basis for developing better diagnostic tools and future treatment.
In this project, researchers will follow a large selection of healthy adults over several years to study the difference between those who may develop LBD and those who remain healthy. The study includes clinical, imaging and biological studies.
